Hey @catblr what’s a good, grain free cat food brand?
Is 9Lives a good option?
I want to make sure I’m providing the best for my fur babies

There are a lot of good options, and not every food will fit every lifestyle, cat, or budget. In general these are good rules:
* Go with wet/canned food. Cats get most of their moisture from their food, and feeding kibble can lead to chronic dehydration and urinary tract problems (especially common in male cats). Kibble is also generally higher in ash and fillers, and therefore carbs.
* Low carb and grain free. Sometimes a grain free diet can have a lot of carbs from other sources like legumes or tubers (potato) so you have to look at the other fillers as well.
* Avoid fish. A lot of people don’t realize but fish is not very good for cats. Instead, choose poultry (chicken, turkey, duck, quail, etc.) and rabbit, which are much closer to their natural diet. Fish is higher in ash and magnesium (leading to those urinary tract problems), and many fatty fishes (common in cat food) contain a high amount of mercury. In addition fish will make their poop stinky and can lead to pickiness.
* Red meat is also not ideal for cats.
* The food shouldn’t have carageenan. There are some studies which implicate carageenan in gastrointestinal inflammation, lesions, and even cancer.
* Raw is an option for cats. You can buy it frozen and pre-made or make your own, but it’s labor intensive and you need to make sure it’s balanced. If you make it yourself there are some start-up costs but in the long run it can be cheaper. If you go this route be sure to do your research, as it’s easy to mess up.
* Aim for named meat products inclusive of water content high in the list when choosing a wet food. Avoid vaguely named meats (”poultry” versus “chicken”) and meat by-products. When choosing a dry kibble, named meat meals should be high in the list instead of meat inclusive of water content, as once it’s it’s cooked down, a meat inclusive of water content would be further down on the list. In kibbles, aim for named meat meals like “chicken meal” instead of more vaguely named meals like “poultry meal” or “meat meal”.

Some canned food brands I recommend (non-fish/non-red meat flavors):
Nature’s Logic
Nature’s Variety Instinct
Weruva
Wild Calling
Ziwipeak
But there are many other options – I suggest reading up and doing your own research!
I do not suggest 9Lives, Meow Mix, Purina, Fancy Feast, Whiskas, Friskies, or Science Diet.
This is a pretty good list.
I’m iffy about the carageenan thing because I haven’t seen enough studies prove causation instead of just correlation, but you can make your own choice on that.
Cats can’t digest cellulose, so you don’t want it to be a major ingredient as it’s just filler, but they do need fiber in their diets to move things along so it isn’t necessary to avoid it entirely if you can’t afford grain-free food. Go for starches and legumes over grains and cereal (so potatoes and peas vs corn and wheat and soy).
Also the hate for meat byproducts is largely undeserved. They’re usually organ meats, aka the sort of things carnivores go for in the wild because they’re rich in nutrients. The term byproducts scares people away but that mostly means they didn’t separate out the viscera by specific organ prior to adding it into the food. It also uses organs humans usually don’t eat but dogs and cats love, and is inexpensive and healthy. As long as the type of animal is named (poultry, chicken, beef, etc) there’s no reason to avoid it. It may be gross to humans but your pet will love it.
I also disagree that red meat is unhealthy for cats. As long as the diet is balanced for fat and protein you should base your decision on what meat your cat prefers (the issues with fish are good points, though, and some cats just can’t tolerate fish).

As requested by @temenggong-binturong about compilation of Thai cat breeds. According to an ancient record about Thai cats, there are 23 breeds in totally; 17 are catagorized as lucky cats and 6 are filed as unlucky cats.
This one is going to be really long so I’ll add spoiler to keep it short on dashboard…
This is the single most important post on tumblr.

I don’t really have a thing that drives me nuts for cats, but getting things with easily eaten strings would be good to stop.
I want more people to get puzzle feeders! Cats need enrichment just like dogs and foraging behavior is one people always forget about.
this is dumb but it’s been bugging me ok.
You feed your cat every day, more than once a day i presume. You bring your cat food that you won for it and help to keep it strong. A cat that catches small animals and brings them to you does not think you are a big dumb kitten that it has to teach. It thinks that it’s contributing. It’s returning the favor. Cats are cooperative animals, and it wants to help because it loves you and wants to pull it’s own weight.
Some customer bought a ton of 5 hour energies and all I could think of was that tweet saying: “at some point you need to grow up and just do cocaine.”
